Sybaris' Bowman Damage Calculator

This MS Excel Spreadsheet calculates expected damage, damage per second, HKO range, chance of 1HKO and Knockback for each main bowman skill.

You can enter your characters stats and select a monster from the monster table. Damage and other statistics can then be calculated for Arrow Blow, Double Shot, Final Attack, Strafe, Iron Arrow, Arrow Bomb, Arrow Rain, Arrow Eruption, Blizzard, Inferno, Piercing, Hurricane, Frostprey, Phoenix and Sniping!

Damage can be modified by selecting different pots or activating damage buffs for Sharp Eyes, Concentrate and Maple Warrior! Also included is an accuracy calculator to work out your chance to hit, as well as ATK/DEX and HP/EXP ratios. Up-to-date monster tables include stats for all monsters currently in GMS, including Leafre and NLC.

Use the calculator to experiment with different builds, or to help you work out where to train.

Sybaris Bowman Damage Calculator

I have taken information from various threads within this forum, skill data from sauna' along with extensive testing within the game to derive the various formula used in this calculator.

Skills included:-

Common Skills: Critical Arrow, Arrow Blow, Double Shot, Mastery, Final Attack, Strafe, Sharp Eyes, Maple Warrior.

Crossbowman Skills: Iron Arrow, Arrow Eruption, Blizzard, Piercing, Frostprey, Sniping

Bowman Skills: Arrow Bomb, Arrow Rain, Inferno, Phoenix, Sniping, Concentrate.

The calculator is divided into 3 worksheets, Bowman Damage, Monster Table and Skills Table

Bowman Damage Worksheet

Player Stats Panel

Weapon Selection
Select either Bow or Crossbow - the calculator will then configure itself to your skill set. There are additional fast and booster tick boxes will affect the DPS calculated for each skill.


Player Stats Panel
Enter your stats for STR, DEX, ATK (total for weapon and equips only), your level and accuracy stat, and with the current level of your damage boosting skills, . The effect of buff skills Sharp Eyes, Maple Warrior and Concentrate (bow users only) can be turned on/off using the tick boxes.

If you tick Maple Warrior, you will be required to break down your STR and DEX stat into base and Equips.

ATK/DEX Ratio
Your current ATK/DEX ratio will automatically be calculated for you when you enter your stats. The calculator derives this value by comparing the effect of raising ATK by 1 stat value to the effect of raising DEX by 1 stat value.

The ATK/DEX ratio is not a smooth progression and can go up and down everytime you change your stats slightly. This is not a flaw in the calculation but due to the nature of the game design, and how values in the game are rounded off.

Pots Panel
Select the type of ATK potion you use, or tick none.

Count Skill+FA as one shot
Ticking this box will add the damage from FA into Arrow Blow, Double Shot, Iron Arrow and Arrow Bomb, giving you a combined total for each skill. (watch and dispair as it screws over your DPS!).


Monster Stats Panel

Monster Selection
Select a predefined monster from the drop down list, and its stats will automatically appear in the panel. (These cannot be edited here, but changes can be made on the monster table worksheet).

Alternatively, you can select User Defined and use the rockers to create your own monster.

Mob Size
This can be set between 1 and 6, and will determine the total damage reported when using mob skills. Skills such as frostprey, Phoenix and piercing will automatically be limited to 4 or 5 at lower levels.

Chance to HIT
Calculates your chance to hit a monster based on your accuracy, the monster's avoidance and the difference in your levels. Having a chance to hit less than 100% will have the effect of reducing your Expected Damage and your DPS. Therefore it is important that you do enter your correct level and accuracy stat into the player stat panel.

Exp/HP Ratio
This ratio is automatically calculated for each monster, and is there to help you plan where to train. Killing monsters with a high Exp/HP ratio will often result in better EXP and faster training.

Strong/Weak to element Panel
These will automatically appear for predefined monster where relavent, or you can use the over-ride switch. These tags will affect the reported damage for Inferno/Blizzard and Frostprey/Phoenix skills.


Damage Panel

Skill Level
Set the skill level for each of your attack skills.

Max Critical / Min Critical / Max / Min
These values represent your damage range, and should reflect the damage you experience ingame. For mob skills, damage ranges for individual hits will be multiplied up to reflect the damage delivered to the whole mob.

Exp Damage per Shot
This value is the amount of damage each shot delivers on average over time.

Damage per second
This was added to enable easier comparison of the new faster/slower 4th job skills with existing skills. The calculation assumes you are spamming the skill repeatedly.

Average HKO
This is the number of shots, on average, required to kill a monster of this type.

HKO Range
This is the fewest and most shots it should take to kill a monster of this type. Note that extreme values are in practice hard to achieve with very stable skills like strafe.

Chance of 1HKO
THis is the percentage chance of killing the monster with one shot.

Chance of KB
This is the percentage chance of the skill causing the monster to be knocked back.

Meso/Shot
This uses the meso drop range and the monster piece value listed in the monster tables to calculate the average amount of meso gained with every shot fired. The cost of MP for the skill is then deducted. I have used a standard drop rate of 65%.

Please note that this data is currently incomplete, and you should add in this information into the monster table where necessary if you want this to be accurate!

Meso/shot
This uses average meso drop plus the value of the monster piece to calculate expected meso gain for each shot fired. The cost of MP for the skill is then deducted. I have used a standard drop rate of 65%.

Exp/Shot
Uses the Average HKO stat to calculate EXP gained with each shot. This is a bit of a rough and ready calculation until I can find a way of working out the probability of each outcome within the HKO range.

Hide/Show 2nd 3rd & 4th job skills
The new sheet looks pretty complicated with 4th job skills added. Unchecking the boxes simplifies it a little, by removing unwanted skills.

Monster Table Worksheet

The Monster table contains all the relevant stats for all monsters currently in GMS. The original data was taken from Hidden-street.net, with subsequent updates from sauna.gibbed.us.

As well as the main stats, there is some information on meso drops, monster piece price, and weak/strong to element tags. The monster table has been left editable, so you can correct any mistakes you find, delete monsters you dont use, or sort it as you wish.

To sort the table, select all the rows containing monster data (currently row 4 up to row 450) and then select data --> sort from the menu. Alternatively, individual rows can be inserted/cut/pasted/deleted from the table, and there is space for new monsters to be added in at the end. Whichever order you put the monster table into, this will be reflected when selecting monsters on the main sheet. By default, monsters are sorted by level, although some people may prefer an alphabetical list.

The currently selected Monster is highlighted in pink on the Monster Table.

A BIG thanks once again to mrstak for compiling the original data. (Please blame him for all inaccuracies!).

Skills Table Worksheet

The skills table used by the calculator is visible for reference purposes. The current level of each skill (as selected on the main worksheet) is highlighted in green.

In order to calculate DPS on the main worksheet, it was necessary to decide on shots/minute for various combinations of fast/slow bows, with and without booster. I timed most of these personally, and was aided with the bow timings by RoyalCatMando. The timings for FA came from B@silMarket's Bowman Forum FAQ, credit to sapphire8 and bluebomber24.

I have left all bow-timing values editable, as although I consider them to be correct, there is still some dispute over these. If you have strong feelings about this, you can change them to what you think is right.

Also editable is the value for meso drop rate, piercing increase rate (although I am now more sure that the 18% figure is correct).

The defence formula used ingame is complicated and seems to be based on level difference as well as WDEF. However, this calculator is currently still using WDEF/2 as a simplified defence formula. Whilst this fits well enough in most scenarios, I am aware that it may prove to be a little inaccurate when your level is much lower than the monster you are attacking, causing the calculator to over-report damage. You can experiment with your own ideas for defence by typing in your own formula into the cell indicated, using any of the variables used elsewhere in the spreadsheet. Let me know if you discover a better model!

Requirements

This spreadsheet requires Microsoft Excel to be installed on your PC to work. Microsoft Excel is not freeware, but part of the Microsoft Office suite. If you dont have it installed, try using OpenOffice instead which is free to download from http://www.openoffice.org
