Laggard is a real word which means "one who is slow" (man SAT class really got to me huh?).. I'm assuming lag was either derived from laggard through gaming or that lag is indeed a word in itself as a verb.

I have one suggestion pertaining to this site: could you make an edit onto this on how many posts are required to attain the next level snail>shroom> etc... for some reason that would make it a loottt easier for me. and possibly others as well

If I'm not wrong, wikipedia has a very similar guide to leet speak. I find the 'rarity' questionable sometimes though.
